Wednesday 29 April – Talk & Film Show
Roddy de Norman would have talked today about Cornwall’s Secret War. Cornwall hosted several covert flotillas tht attempted to move agents and ordinance to the north-west of occupied France. Falmouth, Helford and Mylor each saw secretive fishing vessels and – latterly – MTBs ply their trade across the Channel.
The wonderful 1944 film of Frenchman’s Creek [click the title to watch] would have been shown at the Hidden Cinema at St Mawes Hotel.
Thursday 30 April – Gardening & Jazz
Marge, a Festival favourite, would have offered us her pruning tips and a practical presentation of how to do this best. Marge will explain the principles of pruning and the best way to tame some of our most popular trees and shrubs. We will also cover selecting the correct equipment for the work. There was to be the opportunity to try out your newly learnt skills under her experienced guidance.
Jacka Jazz, the Roseland based quintet would have played their foot-tapping swing music from the great American songbook. Trounce Guy would have joined them to tell stories that reveal the rich tapestry of a parish he has been part of for over 60 years. The “Roseland Poets” – Margaret & Mags – would have shared some bits of nonsense to make us all smile.
Friday 1 May – Workshop & Folk concert
Lynn Kentish would have offered us a workshop in the ancient art of willow weaving.
Will Keating was to work with the children at St Mawes Primary School and a group of professional musicians to bring us a concert of Cornish Folk songs. Following sell out Cornish Folk Concerts held in recent years, Will Keating, one of The Oggymen, brings his talented musician friends to the delightful Tresanton Chapel in St Mawes for the first time. Award winning Fiddler Anna Dowling will be joining Will, alongside internationally renowned Banjo player John Dowling and veteran musician Claudia Colmer (Ivy Benson Band) on her 300yr old Double Bass. Will Keating, will be performing songs from his highly acclaimed debut solo album Cornwall my Home (Kernow ow Thre) and other Cornish folk favourites. The concert will also feature a very special performance from St Mawes Primary School Choir, making this a memorable evening for all. Hear some of Will’s music here.
