Company B – Cornish Jump Jive Band

Company B Cropped

Straight out of the “sunny” county of Cornwall, Company B has been bringing big energy and even bigger tunes to stages across the South West (and beyond) for the past 14 years.

This lively seven-piece jump jive band has popped up everywhere, from the London Science Museum to festival main stages, even rubbing shoulders with international music legends along the way.

Their show?  A whirlwind of 1940’s sights and sounds, shaken up with a modern twist.  Expect a rock-solid rhythm section, a blasting horn lineup, and vocals that bounce between rowdy shouts and silky harmonies.

They don’t just play the classics from Louis Prima and Louis Jordan – they throw in the own “tongue-in-cheek” originals to keep things fresh and fun.

Whether you’re a die-hard swing fan or just love a good party, Company B’s infectious energy guarantees a toe-tapping, hip-shaking, feel-good time for all ages.

So, are you ready to jump, jive, and boogie?  Company B sure is!!

Fal River Cruise

Fal River Cruise

The Fal River Cruise is one of our most unique and popular events.  Come aboard luxury private charter vessel Moyana for the opportunity to see local wildlife on the Carrick Roads, Fal River and its tributaries, exploring areas that you do not normally see on the regular ferry routes.  With a commentary by David Hall, you will see wildlife that you might otherwise miss.

Moyana has a fully stocked bar serving a wide selection of hot and cold drinks, including tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and both non-alcoholic and alcoholic options.  Bar snacks such as crisps and biscuits are also available.

The cruise starts and finishes at St. Mawes Harbour Quay and will take approximately 2 hours.  It is always colder on the water than on dry land so we recommend bringing wind and waterproof layers.

Numbers are strictly limited for this event so we recommend booking in advance.  We may not be able to accommodate those who have not pre-booked.

  • Refreshments available
  • Please arrive promptly for 1.30 departure. The cruise will last approximately 2 hours.
  • Parking on the Quay is extremely limited – we recommend using The Square Car Park, TR2 5DL

Songs for The Ship

Ship Inn Cropped

Songs for The Ship is a concert of popular and original songs, sung and played live in the lovely Church in Portloe by Sid, Sarah and Tim who are all local musicians.

Sid and Tim play soulful acoustic music with a passion for both writing and performing original material and arranging original versions of some timeless songs you will recognise.

Sarah completes the musical trio with some magical melodies and words, hand-picked from the heart and backed by her beautiful guitar picking style.  The mix is completed with rich harmony as the trio put their sound together during the set.

The Ship Inn in Portloe is running the event and the musicians are performing to raise funds to help the on-going effort to get the pub running smoothly and into the future.  The pub is a short walk up the road from the venue, the church.  It is an important meeting place for both residents and people who holiday in the village – a lifeline for the community and a welcome stop for coast-path walkers.  Help save our Ship!

Our Atlantic Roots

Our Atlantic Roots Cropped

Cornwall based transatlantic duo ‘Our Atlantic Roots’ fuse together poetic lyrics and cinematic instrumentation, creatively presenting a blend of the cultures they are individually from, by merging genres characterized by their country and folk roots.  Audiences consistently praise the duo, Laura and Mac for their tight vocal harmonies, honest storytelling and for Mac’s impressive guitar performance.

In recent years, the duo have had playlisting success with millions of streams under their belts, BBC Radio 2 airplay, regular BBC Introducing features, TV appearances and a very full tour calendar!  They’ve shared the line up with the likes of Ward Thomas, Passenger and Tom Odell, and have performed on the main stages of festivals such as Between The Trees, Cornwall Folk Festival and Beardy Folk Festival as well as making appearances at The Americana Music Week, The British Country Music Festival and more.  The fully independent and self-managed duo have taken sonic inspiration from artists such as The Civil Wars, The Hollow Coves, The Paper Kites, Novo Amor and The Oh Hellos.

Our Atlantic Roots have steadily been building a catalogue of songs that have been praised by the likes of Nashville-based hit songwriter Mark Cawley (Tina Turner, Kathy Mattea, Paul Carrack) who called their work “a sonic reflection of their passion for each other and their roots”, stating that he loves the blend of their voices and everything he’s heard them do!

The duo’s latest EP ‘Memories Live On’ is a project that leans more into the traditional, with string instrumentation by highly praised folk musicians such as Sam Sweeney and Ben Nicholls.  It was recorded with BBC Radio 2 Folk Award winning producer, Andy Bell (Bellowhead, Martin Simpson, Spell Songs) and celebrates the wild Cornish coast where the couple currently reside.

As for what’s next … a debut album and UK headline tour are on the cards among some other very exciting next steps in their career.  There’s one thing for sure, Our Atlantic Roots are gaining momentum and have no plans to slow down anytime soon!  As folk Musician Geoff Lakeman stated after seeing them perform at Cornwall Folk Festival “expect to hear more of them!”

“The audience were mesmerised! … Our Atlantic Roots delivered one hour of pure magic” – Cornwall Folk Festival

“One of the pleasant surprises of my summer music festival season … a synergy of poetic songs and intense harmonies, Our Atlantic Roots exuded an effortless and charming natural stage presence” – Geoff Lakeman

Treg Talk:  Travel That Gives Back – Sustainable & Regenerative Tourism with Dr Anna Spenceley FRGS

Treg Talk Cropped

Tourism is vital to Cornwall.  It supports jobs, local businesses, and community life – yet it also places real pressure on fragile coastal landscapes and local infrastructure.  As visitor numbers grow, how can tourism continue to bring benefits without undermining the very places people come to enjoy?

In this engaging and accessible TREGTALK, Dr Anna Spenceley explores what sustainable and regenerative tourism really mean in practice, and what they could look like for communities like ours.  Drawing on her global experience – particularly wildlife tourism in Africa and Asia – Anna examines how travel can actively support nature recovery, strengthen communities, and protect cultural and environmental heritage.

The talk balances big-picture thinking with practical insights, inviting audiences to rethink what it means to be a visitor – shifting from passive consumption to meaningful connection.  There will be plenty of opportunity for questions and disucssion.

This talk is ideal for anyone who loves Cornwall, cares about the future of travel, or is simply curious about how tourism can become a genuine force for good.

About the speaker:  Anna is one of the world’s leading voices on sustainable tourism, with over 25 years’ international experience.  She is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and sits on the UN World Tourism Organisation’s Panel of Experts.  Her work has shaped landmark sustainable tourism guidance for organisation including IUCN, UNEP, UNDP, UNESCO, the European Commission and the World Bank.  She is currently editing the 2nd edition of the ‘Handbook for Sustainable Tourism Practitioners:  The Essential Toolbox’.  She has previously lived in South Africa, Rwanda, the Seychelles and Papua New Guinea, and has worked on assignments in 39 countries.  Now based in Cornwall with her family, she volunteers with local conservation groups, bringing global expertise to a topic that matters deeply at home.

Proceeds from tickets purchased for this event allocated to Anna will be donated to the Roseland Environment Action Community Team (REACT).

Philleigh Folk Presents Du Glas

Du Glas Cropped

Born out of the vibrant music scene in Penzance, Du Glas offer their own brand of inventive and energetic heartland rock combining influences from Americana and folk music.

It all began in 2016 when Du Glas (Cornish for ‘black’ and ‘blue’) began their adventure with Lucy Osborne (lead singer) and Anthony Power (guitarist and song writer) performing at open mic nights and jam sessions in West Cornwall.  With Lucy’s background in theatre and Anthony’s catchy tunes and meaningful lyrics , the duo captured audiences’ hearts with their emotional and dynamic music.  Teaming up with various talented musicians based in Penzance it wasn’t long before they were playing regular pub gigs and local festivals.  The group has since grown to include the rhythm master Kevin Cook on drums, the groove machine Crisso on bass and the sweet sounds of Lou Peixinha on flute and violin.

Together this dynamic group mould their different musical tastes to create a very diverse set.  Your average Du Glas gig will seamlessly slip from a bit of rock and roll to old American folk.  Throw in a rockabilly tune for good measure and before you know it you’re experiencing the blues.  Nontheless, a few things are certain: passionate vocals and sweet, sweet music.  Du Glass have been played on BBC Introducing and in 2018 released their debut album of original music Too Many Ghosts.
