St Mawes Guided Walk with Alan January | Louise Connell: talking about Tate St Ives | Jane Darke & Jim Causley: Charles Causley – Cornwall’s Native Poet

WE hosted this sell-out event at Tregony Village Hall with over a hundred people turning up to hear about Cornwall’s role in the launch of the US troops to Normandy. Proceeds from the talk will support the Festival as well as £400 going the Cornwall Air Ambulance (Roddy’s nominated charity). We would also like to thank GK Electronics Redruth for supplying the PA System. We are pleased to announce the recent publication of Roddy’s book, Operation Overlord: Cornwall and the preparation for the D-Day landings.
PATRICK GALE gave us an interesting evening and spoke with wit about his writing and his new book, Take Nothing with You, his fourth Sunday Times best seller. He answered many enthusiastic questions from the audience and signed copies of his books. Truro’s Waterstones were there to sell copies of his recent books; our thanks to them. Thank you too to the Rising Sun for hosting this fascinating evening.

ORPHEUS offered us a great evening of Brazilian jazz at the St Mawes Memorial Hall. Their infectious rhythms, sambas and bossa novas enchanted the packed hall. We were delighted to welcome them and their uplifting music to the Festival.

THANKS to Louisa Fitzpatrick of St Austell Wines and to Darren Heather of the Kings Arms, Tregony, for a wonderful evening. Over forty packed into this local pub to taste a selection of wines. Fun was had by all at this informative and enjoyable evening.

Everyone enjoyed tasting these gins and vodka from the Atlantic Brewery & Distillery. Thanks to Emily and her team at the St Mawes Hotel for hosting the event and so ably assisting the Festival team.

WE had a great crowd for this wonderful evening where both the Tresillian Singers and Rhos Keur were in full voice. We are grateful to both for singing so brilliantly in the really beautiful setting of the St Just in Roseland church.

ROBERT GODDARD gave a warm, funny and informative talk about his writing habits and his new book, One False Move, set in St Mawes and Falmouth. He generously spent longer than expected with us at the Roseland Inn, Philleigh, answering our many questions, and then kindly signed copies of his new and older books. Thanks to Waterstones, Truro, for providing the pop-up book stall.

THANKS to well-known local potter Fran Osborne for running two Clay Days at this year’s Festival. She patiently helped us learn some new skills and we all ended up with something lovely to take home. Thanks too to Andy Thomas for helping Fran with the two workshops.

The ever-popular Edwina Hayes gave us a wonderful evening at the Tresanton Chapel. Her charming songs enthralled us and we are delighted she was able to return to the Festival this year. We would like to thank Fudge & Moore especially for their generous sponsorship of this event.

Our grand finale evening was great fun. The band sang us all our favourite sing-along numbers and there was some wonderful dancing from enthusiastic fans. Thanks to the Kit Hillbillies for giving us a suitably great ending to what has been a wonderful Festival.
