Once again we are delighted to welcome the Prize winning St Austell Town Band who will open the Festival on Saturday 25 April at the Memorial Hall, St Mawes. Formed in 1838 and now playing with their new director, Stuart Chappell, they will give us a rousing evening of entertainment.

In 1838, the St Austell Sax-Horn Band was formed, under the patronage of J. S. Graves Sawle. Over the years the band have experienced some fantastic contesting moments under very experienced conductors; Fred Roberts, Albert Chappell, David Loukes, Derek Greenwood, Leonard Adams, Frank Renton, Roy Newsome, Melvin White, Richard Evans to name just a few. The band is delighted to now be under the direction of Stuart Chappell. Stuart started working with St Austell in November 2019!

In 2005 St Austell Band qualified for the National Finals, at the Royal Albert Hall and then in 2008 & 2013 the band was extremely proud to be the Royal Trophy winners at the Bugle Band Contest. 2014 seen the band’s second place performance at the West of England Regional Contest earn them a place at the First Section National Finals and a promotion to the Championship Section for 2015.
